Terms of Service
1. Overview
This website is operated by Valar Systems LLC ("Valar Systems," "we," "us"). By visiting our site or purchasing from us, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site or purchase our products.
2. Our products
We sell smart home devices and electronics, many as DIY kits that you assemble and install yourself. Product descriptions, specifications, and guides are provided as accurately as we can make them, but we don't warrant that all content is error-free. We may change product designs, specifications, and prices at any time.
3. Assembly, installation, and safe use
Our products involve electricity, motors, moving parts, and mounting hardware. You are responsible for assembling and installing them correctly, following the provided guides, and using them safely. In particular: install devices and power adapters in accordance with the instructions and your local electrical standards; ensure mounted devices are securely fastened; and route cords and ropes so they are kept out of reach of children and pets — loops of cord or rope near windows can pose a strangulation hazard to young children. If any part of an installation is beyond your comfort level, stop and email us before proceeding.
4. Open-source firmware and files
Our firmware, design files, and 3D print files are published under their respective open-source licenses in our GitHub repositories, and those licenses — not these terms — govern your use of them. Open-source software and files are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. If you modify firmware or hardware, you do so at your own risk; see our Refund Policy for how modifications interact with your product warranty.
5. Orders and payment
By placing an order you represent that the purchase and payment information you provide is accurate. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order — including for suspected fraud, pricing errors, or stock issues — and will refund any amount already charged for a cancelled order. Prices are in USD unless shown otherwise. Built-to-order lead times, shipping terms, and duties are described in our Shipping Policy.
6. Returns and warranty
Returns, refunds, and our one-year warranty are governed by our Refund Policy, which is part of these terms.
7. Intellectual property
The Valar Systems name, logos, and product names are our property. Our open-source licenses grant you broad rights to the covered firmware and design files; they do not grant rights to our trademarks or to content on this site outside those repositories.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Valar Systems LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of our products or site, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the product giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, or your statutory consumer rights.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify Valar Systems LLC against claims arising from your misuse of our products, your violation of these terms, or your modification of products or firmware beyond the scope of the applicable open-source licenses.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This does not deprive you of protections granted by mandatory consumer laws in your country of residence.
11. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time by posting the revised version here. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
